Opportunity for those willing to work for a better life

The Connection Café’s success will not be measured only by its sales, but also by its accomplishments as a hands-on employability training center. The goals of that component include:

• To be Jesus to our trainees (and to the public we serve)

• To give opportunities for employment, even to the nontraditional worker

• To train people to be employable

• To teach, model, and instill biblical work habits

The workers will be clients of the Urban Connection and partner organization who are faithfully working to escape poverty, METRO riders, and work experience program members (referred through the Job Center and Job & Family Services). The café’s unique location means just about anyone from our community can travel to and from work easily!

Each employee will go through an extensive intake process. Those chosen will be thoroughly trained for approximately 8 weeks and encouraged to obtain their GEDs. After approximately 6 months of honing their skills, the workers will be placed in traditional job settings by partnering agencies.

The Urbean Café will serve 8-10 job trainees at a time and will be overseen by an advisory board of experienced individuals and staffed by a consistent group of managers to maintain continuity.
